Marina Fedorova’s New Hia column “My Artistic Journey”
Marina Fedorova explores how traditional motifs, architecture, and cultural memory can find new life in contemporary art. In this column, she reflects on her creative journey and the ways art can bridge the past and the future.
Deep red, the geometry of traditional architecture, lace and patterns adorning women’s clothing—these images stay with me. They enter my artistic world and become a visual language that needs no explanation.
My artistic journey brings together contemporary art and the cultural memory of generations. I respect the traditions that shaped me, but I also want to give them a new life through my work.
I see contemporary art as a space where artists can draw on deep cultural roots while creating a new visual language. In my own work, I bring traditional motifs together with a fresh, modern perspective.
I want my art to reflect both the spirit of our time and our connection to the past. For me, tradition is not something fixed: it can remain alive within contemporary life. Art is more than decoration. It can preserve memory, emotion and identity.
I do not limit myself to a single medium or approach. I work across painting, design and digital tools, exploring how they can bring historical influences into a contemporary setting. Through my projects, I try to build bridges between the past and the future.
I see my role not only as an artist but also as someone who can help preserve and reinterpret cultural heritage. My work explores the space between tradition and innovation, the familiar and the unexpected. I hope it encourages viewers to look more closely at the world around them and rediscover the beauty of cultural identity.
