Ateliers SP at Bel Ouvrage: Honoring Craftsmanship
Ateliers SP supported the inaugural edition of Bel Ouvrage Exhibition, held at the Orangerie du Sénat in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024. This event, open to the public, highlighted French craftsmanship and contemporary artistry, featuring over 100 pieces by 40 creators.
Ateliers SP displayed a selection of works by artisan Frédéric Hamel, including:
Tatsumaki: An ebony box with four compartments, incorporating mother-of-pearl and brass.
Amaransu: A twelve-faceted box made from amaranth wood with engraved mother-of-pearl.
Flora Cane: An 88 cm cane containing a hidden compartment, made from Gabon ebony, mother-of-pearl, brass, and rock crystals.
Élégance Cane: A 96 cm cane featuring turning and guilloche techniques, crafted from ebony, mother-of-pearl, brass, and pre-Washington Convention ivory.
On September 8, the exhibition concluded with an auction, featuring select works by Ateliers SP artisan Frédéric Hamel, including the Tatsumaki and Amaransu boxes, as well as the Flora Cane. The auction was conducted online by François Epin, with proceeds directed to benefit the “Fondation des Femmes”.
Curated by strategist Carole de Bona with a scenography by Vincent Dupont-Rougier, Bel Ouvrage showcased French artistry, emphasizing the role of traditional craftsmanship in contemporary contexts. The participation of Ateliers SP reflected its commitment to preserving and sharing its expertise with a wider audience.
The exhibition provided an opportunity to view works that combine functionality and artistry, while supporting initiatives aimed at promoting cultural and social causes. Visitors could explore the craftsmanship firsthand at the Orangerie du Sénat and learn more about Ateliers SP’s contributions to the field.
This exhibition would not have seen the light without the support of Ateliers SP, Les Grands Ateliers de France, Fondation Rémy Cointreau, and others.
